Knowledge Translation Case Studies

MSFHR is pleased to present a new knowledge translation (KT) video series highlighting the work of four exceptional scientists who have successfully integrated research findings into practice.

The four-part series, developed for use in the University of Toronto’s Knowledge Translation Professional Certificate course, is produced by Toronto’s SickKids hospital with financial support from MSFHR and the Alberta Centre for Child, Family, and Community Research. The videos have also been presented in KT training seminars in British Columbia, including the recent Scientist Knowledge Translation Training (SKTT) workshop co-sponsored by MSFHR, Fraser Health, and Simon Fraser University.

Supporting the development of KT resources such as these videos is an important part of our ongoing mandate to build KT capacity for the BC health research community.

• Dr. David Jaffray -“Realizing Innovation Through Research and Industry Partnerships”  
  Dr. David Jaffray of Toronto’s Princess Margaret Hospital explains how an industry partnership helped move research into practice and facilitated the development of a new diagnostic tool that is improving radiation therapy for cancer patients. 

• Pamela Fuselli - "Spreading the Science of Safety" 
  Pamela Fuselli, Executive Director of Safe Kids Canada, explains how research evidence is shaping the effort to keep kids safe from injuries related to consumer products. 

• Dr. Rosemary Tannock - "Out of the Lab and Into the Classroom" 
  Dr. Rosemary Tannock, senior scientist at the Hospital for Sick Children, explains how the Teach ADHD project is generating evidence-based information and resources to help students with ADHD succeed in school and reach their potential. 

• Dr. Stanley Zlotkin - "Going Global" 
  Dr. Stanley Zlotkin, a senior scientist at SickKids and President of the Sprinkles Global Health Initiative, explains how tiny packets of iron sprinkles have improved the health of millions of children with nutrient deficiencies.
