Cindy Holmes

Dr. Cindy Holmes is an interdisciplinary health scholar examining the intersections between social inequity, violence, health and place.

Currently an assistant professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Victoria, Holmes completed a MSFHR Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University, a CIHR-funded IMPART Postdoctoral Fellowship, and a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the National Collaborating Centre for Aboriginal Health at the University of Northern British Columbia.

Her MSFHR-funded project explored experiences of safety, belonging, wellbeing and place in the lives of transgender, Two-Spirit and gender nonconforming people through the use of Photovoice methodology.

She is currently a co-investigator on two pan-Canadian CIHR-funded research teams on the wellbeing of transgender children and youth in clinical care and a co-investigator on a SSHRC-funded national study on the experiences of parent advocates of transgender children and youth. Her work reflects a commitment to social justice and health equity that is embedded in over two decades’ experience in public and population health and social work.
