Eli Puterman

Dr. Eli Puterman is an assistant professor at the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) School of Kinesiology and director of the Fitness, Aging and STress (FAST) Laboratory. A health psychologist, he completed his doctoral training at UBC’s Health Psychology program. He conducted his post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California San Francisco’s Psychiatry Department where he also held an assistant professor position for two years following his fellowship.

Dr. Puterman studies the short- and long-term effects of exercise on stress physiology pathways and psychological states, and their combined effects on disease pathogenesis. His research has demonstrated that adults who maintain an active lifestyle do not have similar physiological and psychological wear and tear in the face of adversity compared to those who are less active. Dr. Puterman is a Canada Research Chair Tier 2 in Physical Activity and Health and has received young scholar awards from the Society of Behavioral Medicine (2014), the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research (2015), and the International Society for Psychoneuroendocrinology (2018).
