M-J Milloy

Dr. M-J Milloy is an infectious disease epidemiologist and a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Family Practice, Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He is conducting a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research supported study of factors facilitating optimal clinical outcomes for Aboriginal people who use illicit drugs and are living with HIV/AIDS. This work is supervised by Drs. Thomas Kerr, an assistant professor in the Division of AIDS at UBC and Dr. Evan Adams at the First Nations Health Authority. Milloy is also the co-PI of the ACCESS study, an ongoing NIH-funded observational prospective cohort of people who use illicit drugs and are living with HIV/AIDS in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

The author of over 40 peer-reviewed publications since 2008, Milloy’s work has been published in top-ranking journals including The Lancet, PLoS ONE, Addiction, the Journal of Infectious Diseases, the Canadian Medical Association Journal, and has been presented at top international scientific meetings. Using quantitative social and clinical epidemiologic methods, his research focuses on the social and structural factors that shape HIV disease progression.
