Partnering for the cause: MSFHR and Breast Cancer Society of Canada co-fund post-doctoral researchers

The Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research is delighted to embark on a new partnership with the Breast Cancer Society of Canada to co-fund two Research Trainee post-doctoral fellowship awards in the field of breast cancer research for the fall of 2011.

• Dr. Peter Eirew, University of British Columbia, will be investigating the breast cancer genome heterogeneity in predictive models of drug action. This information will be used to improve the methods that are currently used to test potential new cancer drugs, with the ultimate aim of bringing new breast cancer treatments into routine use more quickly.
• Dr. Philipp Lange, University of British Columbia, will be studying the proteolytic signatures and networks in breast cancer metastases. This work will be used to develop a powerful new method to support earlier breast cancer diagnosis and determination of patient prognosis. It will also identify potential drug targets for the development and testing of new breast cancer therapeutics.
