MSFHR and VCH Research Institute co-sponsor knowledge translation workshop; registration now open

SKTT logoThe Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR) and the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute are partnering to bring the highly regarded Scientist Knowledge Translation Training Workshop (SKTT™) back to Western Canada. The workshop will be held at the Vancouver General Hospital campus, on Thursday, Jan. 19 and Friday, Jan. 20, 2012.

This two-day, practice-oriented course, initially developed for scientists at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, allows participants to develop a fundamental skill set and competencies around creating and implementing a knowledge translation (KT) plan that can help generate research impact, promote research utilization, and ensure that research findings reach the appropriate audiences.

Registration is now open.

Note: Registration is only open to those whose primary affiliation is with Vancouver Coastal Health or VCH Research Institute. Registration will only be open Dec. 5 and 6 and/or until maximum registration is reached (whichever comes first).

Please note that this workshop is popular and may fill quickly, so early registration is encouraged. If you are unable to register, MSFHR will be hosting additional workshops in the future.

Why offer this workshop?

Increasingly, it is recognized that significant gaps exist between what is known to improve health and what is done to improve health – dedicated resources and expertise are needed to increase its use.

There is a growing emphasis on the dissemination, exchange, synthesis, and application of research evidence to improve health. As a result, there is an increasing need for scientists and other professionals to develop the skills and networks to move their research evidence into practice or policy action that will close those gaps.

This is the third SKTT™ workshop co-sponsored by MSFHR. The overwhelming response to previous courses has demonstrated a clear desire in the BC health research community for skill training in knowledge translation.
