About the Network Program

Among the programs that have been approved for implementation to achieve the BCNRI vision and goals is the development of a provincial network to link researchers and the practice community.

The objectives of the BC Nursing Health Services Research Network (NHSRN) are to:

  • Bring together the academic, practice and policy communities, providing leadership, linkage, critical mass and collaboration to advance nursing health services research in BC;
  • Serve as a mechanism for provincial planning and priority setting, facilitating capacity building and practice-relevant research;
  • Maintain databases of membership, research expertise and research activity, thus building the inventory of talent and activity;
  • Create and maintain communication tools, including a website, to serve as the public face of BC nursing research and facilitate interactions, awareness and knowledge translation, exchange and synthesis; and
  • Position BC for inter-provincial and national research collaboration.

A funding proposal to develop a BC Nursing Health Services Research Network (NHSRN) was received from a Network Proposal Development Committee and approved by an external review panel. A four year grant was awarded, effective November 1, 2009.

Nursing Health Services Research Database

A priority deliverable for the BC Nursing Health Services Research Network in its first year of operation is the development of a proposal to address the need for a database of nursing health services research capacity and activities. The initial development of the database strategy will be funded through BCNRI, with the Network resourced to maintain and expand it over time. The database needs assessment will be provided to the Network leaders to assist them in developing a proposal.
