The HSPRSN, guided by a Steering Council, provides the consultation and planning framework for the initiative. The Council is comprised of representatives of the Ministry of Health Services, health authorities, health providers and the health services and policy research community. It is supported by MSFHR in the approval and implementation of research and capacity building strategies.

In September 2008, the MSFHR Board of Directors approved a recommendation from the HSPRSN Steering Council to focus remaining HSPRSN funds (about $4.5 million) on health human resources research in the three subtheme areas identified as priorities: ways to better employ existing providers, new models of staffing and new models of practice.
After extensive consultation activities, the HSPRSN Steering Council approved four recommendations for action in the area of development of funding mechanisms and programs that address gaps and opportunities in the HHR priority area. Staff are currently in the process of developing the principles and guidelines for programs to address the endorsed recommendations.
Program Evolution
This program ended on March 31, 2010 after five and a quarter years. MSFHR has worked with the health authorities to evaluate the impact of the program. Read about the outcomes of this assessment in the Health Authority Capacity Building Program Evaluation Report (PDF), Appendices - Health Authority Capacity Building Program Evaluation Report (PDF).
MSFHR has worked with the five investigative teams to evaluate the impact of the program. Read about the outcomes of this assessment in the Investigative Teams Program Evaluation Report (PDF), Appendices - Investigative Teams Program Evaluation Report (PDF).
This program, offered in 2005 and 2006, provided funds to cover the operating costs for addressing specific research questions. The outcomes of the fifteen studies funded by the program are now available in the Who We Fund section HSPRSN Operating Grants 2005 and HSPRSN Operating Grants 2006. The results will be disseminated more broadly to stakeholders in 2010.
This program supported BC researchers in applying to peer-reviewed national and international competitions that address BC health services and policy research priorities and require matching funding. A total of $300,000 is available for 2010/11.
The Partnership Program 2010/11 is now open for request.
