Partnerships
With support from the Province of British Columbia, the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research is charged with a provincial mandate to help build BC's capacity for excellent health research. MSFHR commits funding to personnel and infrastructure awards, and the Foundation has formed a limited number of partnerships with organizations that have like aims to extend the number and impact of some of these awards.

Currently, MSFHR had two active funding partnership programs. These include a partnership with BC non-profits and foundations to jointly fund MSFHR trainee awards and a partnership program that is part of the MSFHR Health Services and Policy Research Support Network (HSPRSN). The HSPRSN Partnership Program supports BC health services and policy researchers applying for funding to national competitions that require matching as a condition of award.

In addition, MSFHR has worked in partnership with Fonds de la recherche en santé du Québec on joint initiatives, such as the Inter-Provincial Directory of Researchers. More recently, MSFHR and Genome BC signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly plan and collaborate in areas of mutual interest. A key priority is shared planning and support for leading edge technology platforms to empower BC as a global leader in discovery and applied research. See the MSFHR-Genome BC ad (PDF) published in the 2007 Biotechnology British Columbia magazine.
