What is RSS?
RSS – Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication – enables you to easily stay informed of new content on websites, as soon as it has been published. Instead of repeatedly visiting websites to view the most up-to-date content, you can subscribe to RSS feeds, which immediately deliver the latest news to one location on your desktop.

RSS is becoming a standard feature on websites. The University of British Columbia, the BC Government and many media organizations such as the Globe and Mail are among those offering RSS.

How do I use RSS?
Use an RSS reader
In order to subscribe to and receive RSS feeds, you must use an RSS reader. There are many RSS readers available for free or for purchase. Some readers are web-based, which allow you to access your RSS subscriptions from any computer. Other readers are desktop applications you download and install on your computer. The following is a small sample of RSS readers:

Web-based Desktop Applications A number of web browsers and e-mail programs also have built-in RSS readers.

Subscribe to MSFHR RSS feeds
Once you have a reader you can subscribe to RSS feeds of your choice. Many websites offer multiple feeds that divide up content by category. Websites that offer RSS usually display RSS icons: or . MSFHR has two feeds: one covering general MSFHR news, funding opportunities and strategic initiatives and one for podcasts. To subscribe to MSFHR RSS feeds, copy and paste the following URLs into your RSS reader:

MSFHR News Feed:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/MSFHRnews
MSFHR Podcasts Feed:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/MSFHRpodcasts

There are other methods of subscribing to RSS feeds that vary according to the RSS reader and browser you are using. It is also easy to unsubscribe from feeds. Follow the instructions for subscribing and unsubscribing in your RSS reader.

Read items delivered through the MSFHR RSS feed
When an item arrives in your RSS reader, you see a headline and a brief summary. Clicking on the headline brings you to full text about the item on the MSFHR website. You can adjust the settings in your RSS reader to control how often the reader checks for updates and how it displays content.

For More Information
