BC Proteomics Network – Phase II

The BC Proteomics Network (BCPN) will build on its foundation of providing support for proteomics research and education in the province, and in Phase II will continue to add value to the BC research community through an expanded research mandate, upgraded research support services, enhanced educational opportunities, and health system improvement in the province.

Phase II funding approved Fall 2012.

The BC Proteomics Network (BCPN) will build on its foundation of providing support for proteomics research and education in the province, and in Phase II will continue to add value to the BC research community through an expanded research mandate, upgraded research support services, enhanced educational opportunities, and health system improvement in the province.

Proteomics research has evolved in its importance in translational medicine due to its utility in detecting biomarkers, therefore the BCPN will expand its research scope to harness proteomics capabilities to meet these needs and ultimately change the clinical practices in the province.  Large scale analysis of biomarkers will require a collaborative approach using several high-throughput technologies including proteomics.  Strategies to strengthen the research mandate of the network will involve increasing proteomics research capacity in BC, launching new collaborative translational research projects, and providing enhanced research support services, including new proteomics software resources, expanded support services for mass spectrometry, and the availability of pilot research funding.

The BCPN will promote its expanded research scope by continuing to provide knowledge translation and training activities and introducing new initiatives such as a new proteomics curriculum in BC and an enhanced proteomics training workshop series for clinicians, health care researchers and industry.  New business and marketing activities will help bring additional partnerships and collaborations into the network and will translate research successes into new business opportunities.

The BCPN provides great value to the BC research community increasing research productivity, return on investment and the competitive advantage of BC researchers on a national level.  The increased scope of BCPN research and the enhanced knowledge translation activities will help to engage the greater research and clinical community creating an environment in which the BCPN will become a leader in promoting proteomics-based technologies to impact the health systems in the province.
