Kenji Sugioka

Dr. Kenji Sugioka is an assistant professor in the Department of Zoology, Life Sciences Institute at the University of British Columbia. He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Biochemistry from the University of Tokyo, and his Ph.D. from Kobe University during his study at RIKEN, Japan.

As a Human Frontier Science Program Postdoctoral Fellow in Dr. Bruce Bowerman’s lab at the University of Oregon, Dr. Sugioka has studied molecular mechanisms underlying the cell division regulations during embryogenesis. His current research focuses on how orientation, timing, and asymmetry of cell divisions are regulated during tissue formation.

He was awarded an Inoue Research Award for Young Scientists in 2012, a Human Frontier Science Program Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2012, and the MSFHR Scholar Award in 2019.
