Dr. Mario Brondani

Dr. Mario Brondani holds a dental degree from Faculty of Dentistry, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul – UFRGS (Porto Alegre, Brazil); a Master’s of Science in Biomedical Gerontology from the Institute of Geriatrics and Gerontology -IGG, Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul – PUCRS (Porto Alegre, Brazil); a PhD in Dental Sciences from UBC Faculty of Dentistry, and MPH from the UBC School of Population and Public Health. He is an associate professor at the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of British Columbia, an Equity and Inclusion UBC scholar, and the past President of the Canadian Association of Public Health Dentistry.

His areas of research intersect, from dental education to access to care, from dental public health to geriatric dentistry. He is particularly interested on the experiences of stigma, discrimination and oppression by underserved members of the Canadian society. He is part of a number of the Canadian Tri-Council funded grants as co-investigator, one being a multimillion dollar SSHRC study led by the University of Ottawa to exam the gendered nature of mental health issues, leaves of absence and return-to-work experiences from a comparative perspective involving the practice of dentistry and other disciplines. He is also the principal investigator of a UBC-based study to explore gender and sexual orientation within undergraduate dental education.
