Menno Oudhoff

After finishing his PhD in Amsterdam, where he studied saliva-derived peptides that help wound healing, Dr. Menno Oudhoff started in the lab of Dr. Colby Zaph at the UBC-based Biomedical Research Centre. His initial focus was on intestinal helminth infection, but he soon became interested in the cellular pathways that control regeneration and cancer. His current project focuses on how these pathways are controlled by post-translational modifications.

Dr. Oudhoff tries to combine biochemistry and microscopy to deduct the molecular mechanism with in vivo disease models, which hopefully will make his studies clinically relevant. Although he firmly believes that the discoveries made in basic science are the fuel for future therapeutics, cellular mechanistic studies preferably should be combined with in vivo models.
