Sarah Grasedieck

Dr. Sarah Grasedieck is a postdoctoral fellow at the Epigenomics Lab headed by Dr. Martin Hirst (Michael Smith Laboratories, UBC). Through investigation and manipulation of DNA methylation and gene expression, which are frequently altered in cancer, she aims to identify novel therapeutic approaches for acute myeloid leukemia patients with a special focus on experimental therapies that enable the reactivation of the normal cell maturation process, which is invariably blocked in this disease.

With support of the MSFHR Research Trainee award, in a joint funding initiative with the Lotte and John Hecht Memorial Foundation, and a German Research Foundation (DFG) fellowship, she approaches these research questions through a combination of in vitro (cell culture based), in vivo (animal model based), and in silico (computational analysis and modeling) methodologies.

Dr. Grasedieck completed her doctoral training in Germany at Ulm University Hospital and began her computational biology training in 2015 as a Visiting Student Researcher in the lab of Prof. Jonathan Pollack at the Stanford University School of Medicine (CA, USA), funded through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
