Thuy Dang

Dr. Thu-Thuy Dang is an assistant professor in biochemistry of plant natural products at the Department of Chemistry, I. K. Barber Faculty of Science, University of British Columbia. She received her BSc (Hons) in biotechnology from Viet Nam National University – Ho Chi Minh City, obtained her PhD in biochemistry from the University of Calgary, and completed her postdoctoral fellowship also in biochemistry at the John Innes Centre (UK).

Dr. Dang is a biochemist with expertise and interest in enzyme discovery and biosynthetic pathway elucidation and reconstitution. She is also co-inventor of patents on the production of a number of plant-derived anticancer compounds. Her work received several awards including the Alberta Innovates Technology Futures award, the University of Calgary’s Eye High Doctoral Scholarship, and the European Molecular Biology Organisation Long Term Postdoctoral Fellowship. She recently established PlantBioCoRe (Plant Bioactive Compounds Research) group, using multidisciplinary approaches for harnessing the biosynthesis of high-value phytochemicals to deliver a sustainable and economical pipeline to discover and produce affordable plant-based anticancer drugs.
