$39M to BC researchers in Canada Research Chair announcement

10 February 2016

Sixteen current or former MSFHR award holders were named recipients of Canada Research Chairs this week as part of a $260-million investment by the Government of Canada.

Science minister Kirsty Duncan announced 305 new and renewed Chairs at a special event hosted by the University of British Columbia on February 9. BC’s research community was well represented in the announcement with 32 Chair holders receiving more than $39 million in funding.

The newly announced recipients join nearly 1,700 Canada Research Chair holders across the country – including 240 in British Columbia – who represent some of the world’s most accomplished and promising minds.

Canada Research Chairs are awarded at two levels. Tier 1 Chairs are for outstanding researchers acknowledged by their peers as world leaders in their fields. Tier 2 Chairs are for exceptional emerging researchers, acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to lead in their field.

MSFHR congratulates all recipients of this outstanding recognition! We are proud to have supported the careers of so many new and renewed Chair holders.
