Applications open for MSFHR’s 2019 Health Professional-Investigator competition

10 January 2019

Applications are now open for MSFHR’s 2019 Health Professional-Investigator (HP-I) competition. The letter of intent deadline is February 11, 2019, with full applications due April 17, 2019.

Practicing clinicians have a unique understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with improving patient care, and as a result, have an important role to play in health research and its implementation.

The MSFHR Health Professional-Investigator (HP-I) Program is designed to grow research capacity in this area by helping clinically active BC health professionals to devote time and expertise to a research problem and bring new evidence and solutions into practice within the health system.

Previous recipients have come from the fields of nursing, midwifery and psychology, and include physicians specializing in areas from asthma to HIV. All are using their clinical expertise, and previous research experience, to answer burning research questions that will improve patient care.

2019 Health Professional-Investigator application guidelines

New for this year, as part of our commitment to continuous learning and improvement, we have made a few adjustments to the program to ensure it meets the needs of the BC health and health research community. These include refining the eligibility and evaluation criteria to emphasize a focus on those actively and directly involved in patient care, and partnering with Mitacs to offer an expedited application process for supplemental Mitacs Accelerate internship funding for graduate students or post-doctoral fellows working on the proposed project.

Each year, MSFHR partners with organizations from BC, Canada, and around the world to co-fund research and optimize our collective investments. For 2019, the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation and Centre For Health Evaluation And Outcome Sciences are looking to co-fund a 2019 Health Professional-Investigator. To learn about our co-funding opportunities for both competition applicants and organizations, please see our partnership pages or contact Partnerships Manager Muneerah Kassam.
