Congratulations to Dr. Brian Kwon

10 January 2010

MSFHR 2007 Scholar Dr. Brian Kwon was recently named one of Vancouver’s Top 40 Under 40 by Business in Vancouver.

As a physician and neuroscientist at Vancouver General Hospital, Kwon is actively involved in discovering new ways to improve the prognosis of those with spinal cord injuries.

Approximately 1,050 new spinal cord injuries occur every year in Canada, primarily in young people. There are currently approximately 40,000 Canadians living with a spinal cord injury.

In the past five years, Kwon has garnered more than $4 million in research funding from Canadian and international funding agencies.

In 2004, Kwon was one of six people to receive a New Investigator Award from Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and he has lectured about spinal-cord injuries at organizations all over North America.

The Business in Vancouver award was established to honour corporate leaders, entrepreneurs and non-profit leaders in British Columbia who have reached a significant level of success before the age of age 40. The 2009 Top 40 Under 40 were profiled in the Dec. 29, 2009 issue of Business in Vancouver.
