MSFHR celebrates 2016 award recipients

28 September 2016

The bright future of BC’s health research enterprise was on display September 27 as MSFHR brought together partners, colleagues and stakeholders to celebrate the 2016 MSFHR Scholar and Trainee Award recipients and Dr. Randy Gascoyne, the 2016 Aubrey J. Tingle Prize winner. In addition, the event served as an opportunity to celebrate MSFHR’s 15th anniversary and its many accomplishment during that time.

The 15 scholars and 28 post-doctoral fellows funded through this year’s competitions and Dr. Gascoyne were honoured at a special event hosted by MSFHR at Vancouver’s Shangri-La Hotel.

“When I look back on the state of health research in BC when the Michael Smith Foundation was created in 2001, I’m proud of how far we have come over the past 15 years.” Dr. John O’Neil, chair of MSFHR's Board of Directors, told the invited guests. “And seeing the talent and potential in this room tonight makes me very confident about the future of health research in BC.”

MSFHR’s 2017 Scholar Program will open for applications the week of October 3. Letters of intent are due October 31 and full applications must be submitted by December 16. Competition guidelines are available on MSFHR's website. The 2017 Trainee Program will launch in January 2017.
