The Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research is British Columbia’s health research funding agency. Our core mandate is talent development: we help develop, retain, and attract the people whose research improves the health of British Columbians, addresses health system priorities, creates jobs, and adds to the knowledge economy.
As the provincial health research funding agency, MSFHR is well placed to enable responsive, relevant research to support BC’s efforts to respond to COVID-19 and help provide important resources that BC’s health research community needs to continue doing world-class research during a time of rapid change.
We are working hard to provide programs and activities that help to retain and support BC’s talent base and provide funding stability and continuity for BC health researchers.
MSFHR has conducted conversations, reviewed literature, and collected data with our health research community to better understand how the worldwide pandemic has disrupted the BC health research system and those working within it. As a data-informed organization, we will use this information to guide our decisions in designing and implementing programs and activities under the directions as outlined in our new strategic plan for 2020-2025.
