Akber Mithani

Dr. Akber Mithani is the regional medical director for long-term care and assisted living at Fraser Health. He has devoted his career to the care of older adults through his robust experiences in medical leadership, clinical practice and academia.

Dr. Mithani is also a clinical associate professor at the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry, University of British Columbia, where he has taught and supervised a mandatory clinical geriatric rotation for Family Practice RII residents and International Medical Graduate Family Practice RII residents. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed funded research projects, books, abstracts and journal publications.

In 2020, Dr. Mithani formed the Long-Term Care and Assisted Living Physician Services Medical Leadership Team at Fraser Health. This team supports a learning health systems leadership approach with leads for research, education and quality improvement in clinical practice in long-term care and assisted living.
