Gaetano Calabrese

I obtained my PhD degree in Biochemistry at the University of Cologne (Germany), where I could identify a link between reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial glutathione and cell death.

During the doctoral studies, I also covered the role of PhD student representative for the MitoRTG graduate school and I was recipient of several poster awards.

Being creative and a visual-communication-enthusiast, I always try to add "that drop of art" in all my scientific presentations and publications.

I will join the group of Professor Mayor as postdoctoral research fellow at the University of British Columbia's Michael Smith Laboratories and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

My research focus will be molecular chaperones and their role in preventing protein aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases.
