COVID-19 update: To support public health efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19, MSFHR has postponed both upcoming Health xChange events. Please see below for details.

Health xChange is an annual evening of storytelling with PechaKucha. After three years of sold-out events, Health xChange is back, asking: How can youth-led and youth-engaged approaches help to re-define research?

In Spring 2021, MSFHR and the Vancouver Foundation will host the fourth annual Health xChange. Using a PechaKucha format (20 slides, shown for 20 seconds each), presenters will share stories about how their youth-engaged research can improve health outcomes for young people.

We are inviting presentations from across the full spectrum of BC health research. Topics might include, but are not limited to:

  • Creative ways of ensuring a more vibrant diversity of youth voices are heard.
  • Considering different forms of knowledge (e.g. Indigenous storytelling).
  • Youth-based participatory action research to address inequities and access to health.
  • Methods for conducting or sharing research that address power imbalances.

Please note: Health xChange Vancouver has been rescheduled to Spring 2021. Please stay tuned for more information.

Submissions should outline:

  • What health / health equity issues you addressed.
  • What changes were you hoping to make, and what changes you achieved.
  • Lessons learned.
  • Your contact information and where we might find further information about you, your project and organization.

We are thrilled, this year, to be working closely with a youth advisory group who has been working to develop the theme for this year’s Health xChange; they will also be adjudicating the presentation submissions. These young people come from a variety of backgrounds working, studying and volunteering in fields such as climate justice, indigenous and racialized youth, gender and sexuality and governance. We look forward to their fresh ideas and approach to designing and implementing this event.

Health xChange is coming to Kelowna

We are taking Health xChange on the road. To grow research capacity in the interior, we are partnering with Interior Health and the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation for the first Health xChange in Kelowna, BC.

Join us in October 15, as we bring together researchers, community members, and health system decision makers to network and share ideas about “how community engaged research influence health system change”.

We are inviting presentations from across the full spectrum of BC health research. Topics might include, but are not limited to:

  • Creative ways of ensuring a more vibrant diversity of voices are heard, or different forms of knowledge are considered.
  • Novel initiatives that are working to influence health system changes.
  • Community-based participatory research to address the social determinants of health.
  • Learnings that you gleaned from health system change initiatives that didn’t go as planned.

Please note: Health xChange Kelowna has been postponed until October 15, 2020. Please stay tuned for more information.

Submissions should outline:

  • What health issues you hoped to address.
  • What changes were you hoping to make, and what changes you achieved.
  • Lessons learned.
  • Your contact information and where we might find further information about you, your project and/or organization. Presenters are encouraged to apply to co-present with a community partner.

“Powered by PechaKucha” events are one-off events that are separate from regular city-based PechaKucha Nights, and are usually held as part of festivals and conferences, but can also act as standalone events.

These events include presentations that use the PechaKucha 20 images x 20 seconds format.
