Thank you for joining us at the Indigenous Health Research Ethics in Clinical Research Symposium on April 16.

The symposium demonstrates the continued partnership of the BC Network Environment for Indigenous Health Research and the BC SUPPORT Unit, as part of Michael Smith Health Research BC. Symposium partners also included the Centre for Collaborative Action on Indigenous Health Research.

We welcomed 98 people from across the province to the symposium. This included Indigenous community members who are engaged in health research, Indigenous health researchers, trainees, research ethics leaders, and leadership from regional health authorities, the Ministry of Health, and Health Research BC.

Thank you for your contributions to meet the goals of the symposium:

  • advance the engagement and understanding of Indigenous health research ethics in clinical practice
  • support research talent development opportunities for Indigenous scholars, students, and early-career clinicians and researchers
  • provide networking and convening spaces and provide mentorship

In response to great interest, we are pleased to share two resources mentioned at the symposium:

Together, we are building a community in BC that centres Indigenous ways of knowing in health research. The symposium allowed us to walk together on a journey toward this vision.

With humility, respect and gratitude, we acknowledge that this event is held on the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) people, on the University of British Columbia – Vancouver campus and the city colonially known as Vancouver, which is also on the territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
