Matthias Gorges

Dr. Görges is an Assistant Professor (Partner) in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and a Scientist at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute, where he co-leads the Digital Health Innovation Lab (DHIL) and Pediatric Anesthesia Research Team (PART). Dr. Görges trained in Biomedical Engineering at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany, and received his PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Utah, USA. He went on to complete post-doctoral fellowship training in the Electrical and Computer Engineering in Medicine group, a joint research unit of the BC Children’s Hospital Department of Pediatric Anesthesia and the UBC Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

His inter-disciplinary team of engineers, computer scientists, and healthcare providers focuses on the development and application of digital health technologies, primarily in the anesthesia and intensive care settings, with the goal of extracting clinically-useful information from vital signs and other clinical data to support better, timelier, and more efficient clinical decision-making.
