Calling health innovators: 2019 I2C competition open

Applications are now open for the 2019 Innovation to Commercialization (I2C) competition. The letter of intent deadline is March 14, with full applications due May 2, 2019.

MSFHR's I2C Program provides funding to help BC health researchers move their health innovations towards practical application to improve health outcomes, benefit society, and enrich the health innovation ecosystem.

Each award provides up to four years of funding which can be used to support activities directly related to implementation of a commercialization plan, and/or cover a portion of the award recipients’ salaries to protect time to progress their innovation.

Now in its third year, the I2C Program has already funded exciting products and technologies in the development stage, from a liquid skin substitute to support chronic wound healing, to a wearable exoskeleton to increase the mobility of people with lower limb disabilities.

Dr. Siamak Arzanpour, the 2018 I2C award recipient who is developing the exoskeleton with co-funding from the Rick Hansen Institute, has found the support invaluable. “For us, in addition to the financial support, the award was an acknowledgement of the strength and commercial potential and benefits of the project”, Arzanpour explains. “That gave us more visibility and credibility to engage better with the end user's community and potential investors.”
