Applications now open for 2019 knowledge translation competitions
Applications are now open for the 2019 Convening & Collaborating (C2) and Reach competitions. The application deadline for both is May 30.
Research knowledge is most likely to be applied when it is informed by those who will use it, whether that be community members, care providers, policy-makers, or other researchers.
To support this, and help ensure research has the maximum impact on health and the health system, MSFHR runs the C2 and Reach Programs. These programs are specifically designed to foster collaboration between researchers and research users*, support the co-development of research questions and the dissemination of research evidence.
This year we are pleased to be running the C2 and Reach competitions concurrently, with each award providing a maximum of $15,000 for up to 12 months.
C2 awards bring together researchers and research users to co-develop research aligned with BC’s health system priorities. Through meaningful collaboration, teams co-develop research questions and processes that might include developing a research agenda or building a new partnership to help ensure research findings are relevant to users.
Reach awards bring together researchers and research users to support the dissemination of research evidence, within the context of related knowledge, and increase its potential impact. Together, teams co-develop events, activities, and/or tools from social media initiatives to educational symposia, to share research findings and evidence with audiences who can directly use the knowledge.
For successful teams, funding can provide invaluable support, recognition and momentum. As Baylie McKnight, the research user co-lead on a 2018 C2 project exploring effectiveness of peer support for people with Borderline Personality Disorder explains, “$15,000 might feel like a drop in the bucket for some research budgets, but the hope it can generate is priceless.”
Not sure whether to apply to the C2 or Reach competition?
If your intended activity takes place early in the research process, such as the co-development of a research question or process, consider applying to the a C2 competition. If the activity takes place at the end, such as the dissemination of evidence, consider the Reach competition.
